When Janis and Ian became a couple - a lifetime ago now - she quickly became part of our family. Mum and dad adored her, and she was like another, much loved, sister to the rest of us girls. When they decided to get married, we were all excited and delighted. Mum and dad couldn't believe their (and Ian's!) luck that Janis would be their daughter-in-law.
Janis was unfailingly respectful, loving and kind to mum and dad, especially as their health deteriorated and they both died close together at a comparatively young age. I remember hearing Janis quietly crying as she made tea for us all in mum's kitchen just after she died.
When Matthew, Daniel and Lauren were born, Janis' happiness was complete. When the grandchildren arrived, they were the cherry on the top, and all adored. Her beloved family were her universe, and although a busy wife and mother, never forgot anyone's important dates and anniversaries.
She always waved visitors off from her front door, waiting until we drove off before she went inside, whatever the weather. This continued until the very end, even when she was exhausted and had to be wheeled to the door. Also, even when very ill and struggling to talk, she asked after everybody, taking an interest in our lives.
Everyone who met Janis liked and respected her. Those of us who were privileged to know her well not only liked and respected her too, but loved her.
She was a genuinely good, kind, decent, caring person, and we need more like her. In fact, we could all do with being a bit more Janis!
Go with our love, Janis: you will live on in our hearts and minds always.
